                            ¨Conditions That Are Not Life Threatening¨

¨ Typically, Injuries and illnesses that take place at a day care facility are not life threatening. Care providers should be trained to perform basic first aid to limit complications. Conditions that usually are not life threatening include:

1.) Abrasions and cuts.
2.) Bites
3.) Bruises
4.) Burns
5.) Eye Injuries
6.) Splinters
7.) Sprains
8.) Nosebleeds

:Abrasions and Cuts:

As a care provider, you will probably encounter more abrasions and cuts than any other type of injury or illness. Your primary concerns in treating minor skin wounds are to control bleeding and prevent infection. After washing your hands, To treat a wound, Take the following steps.

1.) Apply pressure on the wound with a sterile pad if the wounds is bleeding, or apply an ice pack to slow bleeding and reduce swelling.

2.) Clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide or soap and water when bleeding stops. Cleansing in a circular motion from the center of the wound to the outer edges will reduce bacteria that can carried across the wound.

3.) Use a sterile bandage to cover the wound.

4.) Notify the child´s parents of the child´s wound.
